Week 14: Snowman Review

Overview of Activity

Members had a quick review session of robotics skills they learned in the previous semester through a Kahoot! Topics such as Arduino programming syntax, various CAD tools, measurement reading, and more were covered. Afterwards, members were challenged to CAD a snowman with certain restrictions to the tools they could use to test their CAD skills.

The Challenge:

Members were tasked with CADing a snowman with the following restrictions:

  1. No using the Sphere Tool (3D)

  2. Circle and Rectangle Tools Only (2D)

  3. Only 1 line allowed (2D)

How To Make Your Own Snowman!

  1. Create a sketch

  2. Create 3 circles on top of each other in a sketch

  3. Dimension the circles such that they touch each other

  4. Draw a center line from the top of the top circle to the bottom of the bottom circle

  5. Use the revolve tool and select one half of every circle for the profile

  6. Select the center line as the revolve axis and press ok

  7. Edit the original sketch and draw a face with a nose on the top circle

  8. Extrude out the face and nose and select join as the operation

  9. Edit the original sketch and draw buttons on the lower two circles

  10. Extrude out the buttons and select join as the operation

  11. Create an offset plane from the bottom plane and position on top of the snowman's head

  12. Create a new sketch on that plane

  13. Create a large circle for the outer rim of the hat and a smaller inner circle

  14. Extrude out the large circle for the outer rim

  15. Extrude out the smaller circle a longer distance for the inner part of the hat
